The speaker system Acoustimass ® 10 home entertainment fills the room with beautiful sounds and no bulky equipment, offering excellent performance for home theater speakers small and discreet.

Four double cube speaker Direct / Reflecting ® speakers and a horizontal center channel produce lifelike effects in 5.1-channel surround sound. Music and dialogue are clear and natural. An Acoustimass ® module, developed with proprietary technology, delivers deep bass throughout the listening area. The two drivers on the downside of the Acoustimass ® module to give realism to the lowest audible notes and effects.

Acoustimass ® speaker technology produces powerful sound effects to low frequency. You can place the module anywhere in the room and all the sound seems to come from the cube speakers.

The automatic protection circuit protects the drivers from the risk of overload and provides increased reliability without compromising sound quality.

Bose Acoustimass 10 user reviews

Cool …. this is the only possible definition for a speaker system like this …..

Module comprising a sub-woofer (or usually to hide behind the TV or in a corner of the room dedicated to listening to) two pairs of satellites to be put to the front sides of the listening position, two pairs of satellites to be placed at the rear sides and a couple that serves as a center channel, or to be placed above the TV or in the immediate vicinity.
Although it seems a very complicated thing I can assure you it is not …. I personally have not spent more than an hour to find the ideal location for all components.
System look good for a good dvd movies enjoying sound sensations never even imagined before, very good TV show to enjoy a simple but sublime music.
You can not imagine what the difference between a regular audio system and this system …
When the notes of “Private Investigation” by Dire Straits began to spread in the room seems to have behind the legendary Marc Knopfler’s guitar … I swear I’m not exaggerating …

I know that this system has a considerable cost (and I can guarantee that cost me a lot of sacrifice) but it’s one of those things that will accompany you for life ….
I know that OPI is not very technical but I preferred to give way to personal impressions rather than simply reading the instruction booklet.

The first thing that impressed me about this home cinema system was the sleek black box. The system box is quite large in comparison to my Samsung BluRay player (which my daughter has now) but it’s not particularly heavy.
The subwoofer is incredibly light in comparison to my old home cinema system – not to mention about half the size. The bamboo speakers are small and I must admit I wondered how effective they would be – despite the system guaranteeing 7.1 sound from a system which looked 2.1. However the attendant wires from seven speakers was too much for me to contemplate.

Panasonic SC-BT222 Setting Up

Along with the DVD player, the subwoofer and two speakers, you also get a remote control, a video cable, an FM radio antenna, a speaker cable and an AC mains lead in the box.

What you don’t get is a digital optical audio cable. In fact there are no audio cables included at all.
The player links up easily via an HDMI cable (which again is not included) and attaching the speakers and the subwoofer is an easy step.

The instruction manual is clear and explains different permutations for connections using different cables but I would definitely recommend you use a digital audio cable for optimum sound – especially if you want to use the system for your TV sound.
Once you have the home cinema system connected you just use the Easy Set Up which will tell you what to do using onscreen prompts and enables you to choose the language, TV aspect required, check the speakers, set up TV audio to feed through the sytem and activate a quick start up.

You can also reprogramme your remote control so it works with any other linked Panasonic device. This is highly recommended if, like me, you have a Panasonic TV – you can use the Viera Cast features too.

What the System Plays
Apart from the aforementioned B region BluRay discs and any region DVD, you can also play media on CDs and SD cards or USB memory devices with a maximum capacity of 128 GB.

The machine can cope with a myriad of different file formats on the media which is compatible with the machine including mp3, JPEG, DivX and AVCHD.
Finally, you can play your iPod through the system, with a docking station located on the top of the player, which will also charge your iPod.

Panasonic SC-BT222 Ease of Use

As I get older I find it harder to get to grips with some new technology – but Blu-ray fortunately hasn’t been a problem for me and I have enjoyed the improved sound and picture quality it brings.
The Panasonic SC-BT222 is fairly straightforward to master, and the instruction manual is clear and easy to follow.

One of the first things I noticed was that the home cinema system has an energy saving device installed which switches the system off when not in use so expect to have to switch this on every time you need it as it won’t be in standby.
The remote control can be used in conjunction with a Panasonic TV and can be used to select menus from your Blu-ray discs, what you want to listen to (be it TV, audio or your iPod) and the menu systems are simple and easy to follow. In fact my only gripe about the remote control is the fact you can’t use it to open or close the disc tray as there isn’t a button for that – you have to use the switch on the system box itself.

Another feature which I really like about this system is load time of the Blu-ray discs. On my Samsung player it could take several minutes for a disc to load and be ready to pay – on my Panasonic it’s a matter of about 20 seconds.
Be warned however that when you turn the system on it takes about a minute to load up properly so if you have your television’s sound feeding through here you will find yourself with a soundless picture for a brief period before the sound comes on once the system has booted up.

Panasonic SC-BT222 Picture Quality

I have a full HD Panasonic TV which I unfortunately cannot currently watch HD programming on due to the wrong aerial having been installed when I moved to this rented house and lack of a satellite dish – something I plan on rectifying soon. Before I moved I did sample HD on it and was mesmerised by the picture quality, and it’s just as sharp when I play Blu-ray discs on this little beauty, with the full 1080p being a joy to watch.
I have read several people say that the home cinema system works best with a Panasonic TV and I cannot confirm if this is true or not, but certainly with my Panasonic HD TV it offers unrivalled picture quality with a crispness of detail and colour that is a huge improvement on standard definition.

The Panasonic SC-BT222 also upscales regular DVDs so you will get a significantly better viewing experience using this system over a normal DVD player. It goes without saying that it can, as promised, easily cope with DVDs which are not Region 2.

Panasonic SC-BT222 Sound Quality

I must admit I did wonder if sound quality would be compromised due to this system only having two speakers, despite the promises of 7.1 sound reproduction. My fears, however, have been unfounded.

Panasonic claims that bamboo, which the speakers are constructed from, is more environmentally friendly and also offers a more extensive sound range. I was a bit dubious about this – having enjoyed the surround sound my old Panasonic 5.1 system gave me I found it hard to believe that these small speakers could possibly be as good.
But in reality the bamboo speakers offer a fantastic sound quality which packs a punch with a total output of 500 watts. You can also use the “whisper sound surround” function which will ensure that if you need to turn the volume down, you won’t lose the quality of sound – in particular the bass – when doing so.

I have found the sound levels are lower when playing Blu-ray discs on this system as opposed to just playing the television through the spearkers but it’s worth cranking the volume up when doing so to really appreciate the cinematic sound experience.
The bamboo speakers also seem to highlight speech clarity better than my older system – certainly I find dialogue much easier to follow even when there is background noise present.

Of course one has to be realistic here – this system is never going to be as powerful as a full 7.1 system with more powerful output but if, like me, you want good audio without speakers dotted around your living room and the attendant wiring, then it’s a price worth paying.

Panasonic SC-BT222 Other Functions

I don’t play CDs on this as I tend to put all my music on the computer or on my iPod, and the iPod dock is how I listen to music on this little beauty.

You are advised to use the plastic docking station protector which comes with your iPod when you use this system but when I put mine on I found that the system didn’t recognise my iPod Touch – whereas if I place the Touch directly on to the docking station without the protector it works perfectly.
What I really like about the docking station on the home cinema system is how you can choose your music using the Panasonic remote control, which brings up the iPod information on to your TV screen.

The one thing I have not been able to master is playing videos on my iPod through this system however. I have contacted both Panasonic and Apple about this and received conflicting information. Apple suggested (after their operative searched Google) that I should buy a £39.99 lead from the Apple Store to use with my system but I don’t need to watch videos through my system THAT much so I haven’t taken it any further.
I have also viewed photographs on SD cards and USB flash drives on this system and have been amazed at the clarity. I used to make up memory discs of photos and always felt the pictures lost something in translation when being viewed on a larger screen. Using a pictures which have been taken with my Panasonic DMC-LZ7 camera and stored on an SD card I have been staggered at how clear they are on my 37″ TV screen, even though the camera is only a 7.2 mega pixel one.

Panasonic SC-BT222 Final Thoughts

If you are short of space or hate clutter, then this Panasonic Blu-ray Home Cinema system could be the answer to your prayers.
The system’s capabilities mean you could quite easily dispense with a separate hi-fi system and have this one box under your TV to deal with DVDs, Blu-rays, Cds, mp3s and your iPod, never mind to improve the sound from your television set or have the family over to see your holiday snaps.

It’s an easy to set up and easy to use system which simply put offers fantastic quality without taking over half your living room and even better, without having wires from numerous speakers taking up floor space. So when a wireless system is out of the question, this one is a great alternative.
I really cannot think of much in the way of disadvantages with the system either – although if you are wanting true cinematic surround sound then this will probably disappoint slightly due to the fact there’s only two speakers, meaning sound is never going to be as full and as rich as through seven – but it comes pretty close in my opinion.

Overall this is a great system and one I can heartily recommend to both film buffs and music fans and it’s certainly removed any need for a hifi system in my house now!

Panasonic SC-BTT750 user review

When deciding on which HTIB to purchse, I had a hard time deciding between 5.1 and 7.1 surround. I have a large room that could use the 2 extra rear speakers for an enhanced surround effect. What really tipped me onto the SC-BTT750 is that with the purchase of two rear wireless kits (SH-FX71) you can actually upgrade this into a true 7.1 system. That way, if I decide in the future to expand into a 7.1, it can be done quickly. If you have questions on how to do this, the owners manual has a page dedicated to this setup. Its actually really easy to do.

The wireless internet capabilities are nice, the Blu-ray and 3d features are excellent.

After I bought this system from Amazon, I got a little buyer’s remorse (did I really get the best sound quality for the money???) and decided to visit my local big box store. Compared to the Sony, Samsung, Bose, Klipsch, Onkyo, and the Yamaha competitors (all in the $500-600 range), the Panasonic was a clear standout. I have to add the disclaimer that I only used the factory settings with no tweaking. I now feel good about my Panasonic’s sound quality

The heart of the system is the player / amplifier that in addition to the space for the blu-ray, has both USB and that the entry devoted to iPod and iPhone. The latter, supported by dedicated dock, has the double advantage of loading the device and can control it remotely with the included remote control.

Once inserted, the iPod, on our TV we can run our songs and playlists like iTunes. Very simple and intuitive.

If you listen to an audio cd, our system will connect via the Internet to retrieve the info on the songs (cover, title, author). Insert USB stick you have the ability to play MP3, video (divx) and photos.

In short HB45E LG Home Cinema System is a true media center for all purposes. No need for complicated configurations and you can almost do without the full manual.

The video quality is excellent with blue-ray really sharp images, even on my monitor for almost 3 years. Even the sound is good, two speakers and a sub offer an immersive sound for movies and video games. Less profound when it comes to pure sound: certainly not recommended for audiophiles.

Conclusion: it has everything you need if you want to enjoy movies, games and audio to a good standard and not forgetting the design.

Downside: lack of HDMI cable in the box

This time we present an interesting product for home entertainment. This is a 5.1 home theater speaker system manufactured by Airis, which has the distinction of having the two surround speakers (or the rear) in wireless technology, thus avoiding the need to be connected to the system via wire. Solution that meets those who do not have the opportunity to lay cables in the living room.

Aesthetics and Construction

There is no doubt that the purchase of a home cinema system, but also on functionality and quality, special attention must also be placed on the aesthetics. These are objects that are in the majority of cases in the living room and therefore have to be beautiful to see. Similar considerations if the system is used on the desktop PC.

Each of the speakers has it’s relative position clearly marked on the back, meaning that it’s very hard to get them mixed up. The instruction manual even gives information on where to place your speakers around the room to get the best sound. As far as attaching the speakers to the wall, I found the best way was to put screws into the wall and then hang the smaller speakers from these. I then placed the centre speaker on top of the DVD player itself, with the sub woofer to the side of my TV.

Connecting the HTC450 to my TV was also very simple, there is a component output available, but I can’t really comment on using this other than the actual component leads are not supplied. There’s also the option to connect via SCART using the supplies video-out cable a SCART adapter. Personally I connected the HTC450 to my TV via a gold plated HDMI cable (again not supplied), which as far as connecting goes, was simple enough. I’ve also connected my SKY HD box using the digital optical input, so as to take advantage of the superior sound quality.
Once all connections are made, there is a little setting up to do in order to make the most of the system. First things first, and it’s possible to set the picture resolution to match your TV, obviously I set this to match my own TV, but options included 580p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. It’s also possible to make changes to the sound settings, including a delay and speaker test. I found the menu system easy to navigate, quite intuitive and had no problem finding the appropriate options for setting up both the picture resolution and sound settings.

Shiny

The HTC450 certainly looks smart, shiny and more expensive than it actually is. Every component is a glossy black, that looks very nice. The main unit, is however considerably larger than many DVD players, so you may want to check that you have room for it. Saying that, it does fit on the shelf of my cheap and cheerful Argos TV stand, with a small gap. The wall speakers are fairly small and modern looking, the main speaker fits neatly on the player and the woofer is, well, fairly large. My only real gripes with the looks are that the shiny surfaces positively attract dust, and show up finger prints, but they are easy to clean. I’d also have preferred the speakers were wireless, but I knew what I was buying. I do, however like that the buttons on the player are all flush and touch sensitive as this gives it a far more streamlined look.

Push My Buttons

The remote control is well laid out, with fairly large, responsive buttons. It only took me a few minutes to get the hang of the very important volume control and I could operate it in a darkened room the first night. Especially as the play, pause, stop, skip and forward/rewind buttons all glow, which I think is a simple yet inspired idea. Another small and yet significant detail is that the back of the battery compartment is actually attached to the remote meaning that it’s unlikely to be lost.

Basic Use

We bought the HTC450 primarily as a DVD player with surround sound, so I’m going begin by focussing on this aspect of the system. First thing’s first, this a DVD player, so it won’t play Blu-ray discs, but what it does do is upscale the video output from DVDs. From what I can gather this means that it ‘fills in the gaps and missing details’ meaning that DVD picture quality is greatly improved. And yes, that is something I can definitely verify. When playing commercial DVDs the picture is vibrant with no blocking or pixilation, although I must stress that we have this connected to a 32” 1080p LCD TV, which no doubt also contributes to picture quality. I would say that there is noticeable improvement in picture quality over our previous DVD player (also a Samsung). DVDs however do take a little longer to load than I’m used to, not too long, but over a minute.

What really puts system apart from a normal DVD player is the sound quality. It really is exceptional, even when at the extremes of volume. At low volume, the sound is still crystal clear and when playing a DVD with Dolby Surround sound it really is like being in the middle of the action. At higher volumes the sound doesn’t deteriorate or warp (even at top volume), and this really does add to the viewing experience, especially when watching horrors and action films. I originally tested this using X-men, and there were several times where I jumped, the sound is just such a vast improvement on a standard DVD/TV combination.

As well as being able to play commercial DVDs, the HTC450 can play various home-made DVDs, including DVD+R, DVD-R and DVD-RW. So far I’ve only tried the DVD-R discs and these have worked perfectly. There are some DVD formats that it can’t recognise though which include DVD-RAM. What I really like about this player though is that as well as standard DVD-Video, this also plays unconverted AVI files. There are a few limitations but so I’ve played a variety of different films that use different CODECS (DiVx, Xvid, MP4) with little difficulty. My only real gripe with this, is that if I pause an unconverted film, and leave it for a while the player goes back to the root menu and won’t let me resume.
Whichever format I use, the player fast forwards smoothly (without sound) and picture quality does seem to be slightly improved. Although, it can’t work miracles and if the video file is of poor quality then the resulting picture quality will still be rubbish. One problem I had with my previous DVD player (that also played AVI files) was that it wouldn’t play the whole of a film if the file size was over a certain amount, meaning a film would suddenly stop. I never quite worked out the limits of this, but am glad to say that, fingers crossed, I’ve not had the same problem with this player, and have finally managed to see the end of those films.

Dance Baby Dance

Although we already had a CD system, it’s not been used much since we got this player. The sound through this system is just fantastic, we play lots of R&B and dance music where the bass is pumping. And we play it at a pretty loud volume. I’ve had no problems with commercial Cds, the sound is clear with no skips or distortion even at a volume loud enough to blast your ears. Under normal circumstances the sound only comes out of the front four speakers, but it is possible to utilise all six speakers by a simple press on the remote. There’s also a P-Bass button to enhance the bass in your music, and when I use this the floor really does vibrate. When using Cds I’ve burnt myself, I’ve found that this really doesn’t like the super cheap Cds very much. Although they will play, for some reason they just don’t sound as good and will occasionally skip, I do mostly blame the Cds rather than the player, because slightly more expensive Cds play perfectly.
As well as music Cds, the HTC450 will also play MP3 cds, and does a perfectly acceptable job of this, as with films, the better the quality of the MP3 the better it sounds. But I must say that my MP3 files from Amazon sound fantastic and I can put up to 500 tracks (not very realistic at top quality) on a CD, meaning I don’t need to keep changing discs during a party. There’s also a function that optimises for MP3, but I can’t say the improvement in audio quality was very noticeable. Oh, the HTC450 can also play WMA files as long as they’re not DRM protected, but it cannot play files direct from iTunes, you will need to convert those.

Burn Baby Burn

So that’s the basic functions out of the way with, what else can this baby do. Well, surprisingly (to me anyway) this player can actually rip Cds! I know, who would believe it. Simply connect a music player, USB flash drive, or even mobile phone to the USB port, put a CD in the drive and press a button on the control and the HTC450 will rip the either the track you’re listening to or whole CD and place it on your device. Although this is quite a handy function, it’s not without it’s limitations. Firstly it cannot play the CD while ripping, and secondly it’s quite slow, ripping at only 3x. But it does work, I can connect my Samsung Monte (phone) and then rip a CD onto it, which will play perfectly.
As well as being able to rip onto USB media, the HTC450 can also recognise and play various file types. For example you could attach an MP3 player and the play the music through the speakers, or attach a camera and view photos and videos. It will even recognise external hard drives, as long as they are in the FAT format and don‘t require special drivers (basically if you can just plug it into a computer and use it then the HTC450 will recognise it). This means that I don’t even need to put my music, photos and video on to discs as I can just plug in my hard drive and play the files from there. I love this feature, it’s really reduced the number of discs I have hanging around. But, the player doesn’t recognise the whole of my 1.5TB drive, it can only recognise the first 160GB.

What There’s More

There are a few other functions some of which I’ve not really explored because I’ve no need for them. There’s a FM radio, which works fine, but I get far more radio stations through Sky. There’s also something called Anynet+ that works with Samsung TVs (which I don’t have). Other equipment can also be connected via the digital input, as I’ve said I have my Sky connected this way, as the sound is fantastic especially when the programmes are broadcast in surround sound.

How Much?

So how much would you expect something that does this much to cost? Well, we bought this for the princely sum of £131 from RGBdirect.com, including delivery and a free multi-region upgrade. Personally I think this is a very good price for such a decent bit of equipment.

Final Words

I’m really happy with the Samsung HTC450, it does exactly what I would have expected from a DVD home cinema system and quite a lot more. I love the way that it plays almost everything that I throw at it, and plays them exceptionally well. I love the way that watching DVD films is far more atmospheric, with excellent sound quality and improved picture quality, almost as if I’m in the middle of the action. And I love the way it makes the most of my music Cds, even going as making my floor vibrate. Ok, this won’t play Blu-ray discs, but it will make the most of your DVDs and do so much more besides and so I can’t help but recommend this system if you’re looking for a new DVD player. And so the Samsung HTC450 gets a very healthy 5 stars out of five.

The Logitech Squeezebox Radio is the third product I have bought or been given as a gift. The original Slimdevices company produced the SLIMP3 device in 2001, followed by the very successful Squeezebox trilogy of devices culminating in the most successful device, the Squeezebox 3 (released November 2005). A few other devices were released before Logitech bought the brand. The Radio was released September 2009.

Squeezebox Background

The concept behind all the Squeezebox devices is that they are network music players, the music is streamed digitally to the device and then uses a digital to analogue converter (DAC) to turn the digital stream into a analogue output that is played through a speaker. Simple concept but these devices are intended to reproduce the music at the best possible quality for the price point. In practice this means high quality components have been used with attention to detail. The DAC is 24 bit and 48KHz sample rate, the DSP (digital signal processor is capable of of silly amounts of processing). The speakers are bi-amped and powered from a class D amplifier.

Is it worth buying? Yes

So enough techno babble what is the Squeezebox Radio like? Well in a word stunning. Remember this is a small mono device but the volume and clarity of the music is truly outstanding. It can fill a medium sized room at pretty high volume levels without straining or distorting. The display is a lovely addition as it makes setting things like the alarm, selecting music easy and then reproduces the cover art beautifully whilst playing. The additional accessory pack which includes a lithium-ion battery is a must. With this you can listen to your music up the garden, in the garage, in the shed, the loft or wherever you are in the house. The battery will power the Radio for a working day between charges, to be honest I don’t know why Logitech didn’t include this with the radio rather than an additional accessory pack.

I’d recommend the Squeezebox Radio to anyone who really enjoys good quality music reproduction. Perfect usage scenarios are listening to music in the kitchen (unless your kitchen is big in which case consider the two speaker Squeezebox Boom), gardening, bathing or as a bed side radio / stereo / alarm clock.
